Flipkart expands to hyperlocal service to strengthen Grocery Supply Chain Infrastructure
Walmart-owned Flipkart announced on Tuesday that it plans to increase its grocery fulfilment centre size by more than 8 lakh square feet over the next three months in Delhi, Kolkata, and other cities. According to a statement, the increased fulfilment centre capacity will allow Flipkart to handle over 73,000 grocery orders per day.

Over the next three months, Flipkart is planning to over 8 lakh square feet of space and 5 new fulfilment centres across Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad to improve its grocery supply chain infrastructure. Flipkart said in a statement that the additional fulfilment centre capacity would enable it to handle over 73,000 grocery orders per day.
"Over the next three months, Flipkart plans to expand its supply chain infrastructure for its grocery company and add over 8 lakh sq ft of space through five new fulfilment centres."
"With this additional infrastructure, the marketplace will offer the convenience of online grocery shopping to more consumers around the world," the marketplace said in a statement.
Flipkart Grocery has over 7,000 items in over 200 categories, including everyday household supplies, groceries, snacks and drinks, confectionery, and personal care.
Flipkart claims that its new grocery fulfilment centre network, which includes locations in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, serves nearly 64,000 orders every day.
Fulfilment centres, as opposed to conventional warehouses, are outfitted with a highly automated pick, pack, and shipping processes to ensure the safe and timely delivery of orders.

She went on to say that the business is constantly working with brand and marketplace partners to ensure stock availability across the world.
Flipkart announced last month the expansion of its hyperlocal service Flipkart Fast to six new cities - Delhi, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida, Hyderabad, and Pune - to enable customers to order daily necessities such as fruits and vegetables and have them delivered within 90 minutes.
