Fire at Mumbai’s Vidyavihar Housing Society Kills One, Several Injured

One security guard died, and another was injured after a fire broke out at a 13-storey high residential building of Takshshila Co-operative Housing Society in the Vidyavihar area of Mumbai on Monday. The Mumbai Fire Brigade rescued 15-20 stranded people.

Fire at Mumbai’s Vidyavihar Housing Society Kills One, Several Injured

Fire at Mumbai’s Vidyavihar Housing Society: One security guard died, and another was injured after a fire broke out at a 13-storey high residential building of Takshshila Co-operative Housing Society in the Vidyavihar area of Mumbai on Monday. The Mumbai Fire Brigade rescued 15-20 stranded people.

The deceased was identified as Uday Gangan, 43. According to medical officials at the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital, Gangan suffered 100 per cent burn injuries. Meanwhile, another security guard, Sabhajit Yadav, 52, sustained 25-30 per cent burn injuries and has been admitted to the trauma ward.

According to the civic body, the fire damaged the electrical wiring and installations, household items, wooden furniture, an air conditioning unit, and clothing in the flats on the first and second floors. Additionally, wall fittings, shoe racks, and furniture were affected in the lobby area between the first and second floors of the building, as per the BMC.

The official said 15 to 20 persons were safely rescued.

Two security guards were injured and sent to Rajawadi Hospital where one of them, Uday Gangan (43), was declared dead. The deceased suffered 100 per cent burn injuries, the official said.

The other person, Sabhajit Yadav (52), suffered 25 to 30 per cent burn injuries and was undergoing treatment, he said.

The fire was reported at around 4:35 am, and the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) classified it as a Level-II fire. Firefighters rushed to the scene and battled the flames for nearly three hours before bringing the situation under control by 7:33 am.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and authorities are investigating to establish whether it was due to an electrical short circuit or other reasons. Emergency response teams, including fire brigade personnel and police, worked swiftly to manage the situation and ensure the safety of residents.
