Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman raised the issue of freebies in Rajya Sabha, said- Transparency in rules is necessary
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman further said that many big developed economies are facing recession because I think the way they handled Covid, that way It is different from the way we handled it in India. The targeted approach has put us on a safe path to help us in revival but not in recession.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman raised the issue of freebies in the Rajya Sabha, said that the government has no objection to subsidies and freebies, but transparency is necessary in the rules. During his address in the Rajya Sabha, the Finance Minister took a jibe at the Kejriwal government without taking names, saying it is important to recognize that when you are transparent in your methods, there is no debate on this (freebies).
All we want is transparency and compliance with statutory fiscal rules. There are media reports that a state government is unable to pay the salaries of its employees on time and the employees are protesting against it. This is probably because the money is being used to deliver many different advertisements across the country. Subsidies/freebies have to be contextualised. If you can put it in your budget and make provision for it, when your revenue comes in and you give money, why would anyone object? All the subsidies given to education, health, farmers are completely justified.
