Farooq Abdullah resigns from the post of President of National Conference

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has resigned from the post of his party National Conference President. Elections are to be held on December 5 to elect the new president of the party. Dr Farooq Abdullah has informed his colleagues about his decision to step down as the President of the Jammu Kashmir National Conference (JKNC). Despite several attempts by senior party colleagues, Farooq Abdullah remained adamant that he would not reconsider his decision.

Farooq Abdullah announced his resignation so suddenly that everyone was taken by surprise. Now the General Secretary of the National Conference has been entrusted with the task of conducting the election for the party president, as per the party constitution. The election for the post of National Conference President is to be held on December 5, till then Dr. Abdullah will continue as the President of the party.

Announcing his decision to step down from the post of National Conference (NC), Farooq Abdullah said on Friday that the time has come to hand over the responsibility to the new generation. There has been widespread speculation that 85-year-old Abdullah will assume the role of party patriarch and his son and National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah could now become its new chief.

Farooq Abdullah told the media, “I will no longer contest for the post of president. The election for the post will be held on December 5. Now the time has come for the new generation to take up this responsibility. It is a democratic process. ”Farooq Abdullah first became the President of the National Conference (NC) in 1983".
