Former Indian wicketkeeper and batsman Saba Karim has expressed his concern on the current batting form of Indian captain Rohit Sharma as he has not been putting up a consistent performance of late.
The Team India put up a brilliant show in the recently-held three-match T20 against West Indies and won all three matches however Rohit Sharma’s batting lacked the impressive performance.
In the three matches, he scored 44, 1 and 5 runs. Though his leadership qualities were quite brilliant with impressive bowling changes and field placement yet his batting became a matter of concern.
Highlighting Sharma’s batting side, Saba Karim, while speaking to Khelneeti, said, “Rohit Sharma is in the XI because of his batting. Captaincy is an additional responsibility. He should not lose focus with regard to batting. A lot of times we have seen that captains are not able to perform as well in their primary skill. This should not happen.”
He also said that this is the beginning of his captaincy and he would gradually realise the importance of scoring runs in the matches.
Saba Karim said, "This is just the starting phase for Rohit Sharma. He will gradually realize how important his runs are for the team. His performance will be crucial in Australia (during the T20 World Cup), where the grounds are big and the opposition has top-quality bowlers.
He suggested that along with the captaincy, Rohit Sharma should work on his batting and improve it. It is important for him to put up a consistent performance.
