For several months, there have been discussions about developing a Clubhouse-like audio chat rooms feature for the Twitter platform. The company has finally shared the development and announced the release of Spaces for web users. Initially, this was unveiled for iOS users, later on for Android users. And now the company is working to have the feature included in browsers. Jane Manchun Wong, an app researcher, tweeted a screenshot of what Spaces preview cards might look like when they're released on the web.
Other tipsters tweeted about how the desktop version of Twitter's new feature Spaces will be viewed. As per a media report, Twitter has also verified this development. Following its limited availability for mobile-only, bringing it to the web appears to be a significant expansion. The announcement follows the 1st April release of Discord's Stage Channel.

Been seeing news reports that specify Spaces is coming to desktop web, but I think if it works on the desktop web, it’ll work on the mobile web too pic.twitter.com/h5uJYCIKNF
Besides, Twitter Spaces is similar to the social media platform Clubhouse in which iOS users can participate in audio-only calls with a limited number of speakers and a large audience. The hosts will be able to choose which members of the audience should be allowed to speak during the call. Members of the call ‘raise their hands, and the host can give them a chance to speak. The feature is expected to be available to Twitter users this month.
Not only Twitter, but LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Mark Cuban's Fireside, Slack, and Spotify are also said to be working on audio chat room features. Meanwhile, Clubhouse was introduced in April 2020, and users can only join the app through invitations. So far, the clubhouse is only available to iOS users. However, the company is working on bringing the app available to Android users as well, to reach a larger audience.
