Environmentalist Ripu Daman Bevli Is The Earth Champion for August
The Earth Champions is a monthly feature by Sony BBC Earth where everyday heroes are celebrated for their contributions to the environment. Previous Earth Champions include actor Sonakshi Sinha, Dhimant Parekh, Afroz Shah among others. This show in August will be special as it comes in the backdrop of India's 75th Independence Day.

New Delhi: Plogging Ambassador of India and the Pioneer of the Litter Free India movement, Ripu Daman Bevli is the Earth Champion for August 2021, announced by Sony BBC Earth. As part of the announcement, Ripu will be interviewed by actress Tara Sharma Saluja on the Earth Champions Show.

During the interview, Ripu will be sharing his journey with the Litter Free India movement, how it became the country’s first eco-fitness movement, the Plastic Upvaas pledge to cut down waste, how they were scaled up to reach 100 cities and how the Govt. of India adopted the mission with close to 1cr people participating. It will be a one-hour show live on Sony BBC Earth’s Instagram handles.
Ripu Daman Bevli is an environmentalist, marathoner, and social activist. He is known as the Plogman of India. He has been featured in Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme. He has been honored with the title "FIT India Ambassador" and has been inducted into the GK books as the Plogging Ambassador of India. He has organized over 500 cleanups in 100+ cities. With his latest campaign, Ride For Change, he will be cycling 7500 KMS covering 150 cities and villages on a mission to build a cycling culture across the country to reduce carbon emissions.
