England vs India: Shafali Verma sets a new record for the highest score by an Indian women cricketer in her Test debut
17-year-old Shafali Verma also made history by being the first Indian female cricketer to score a six on her Test debut. It was only the second six-hit in Test cricket by an Indian woman.

Although it was sad to witness Shafali Verma miss out on a historic century on her Test debut by four runs. Nevertheless, the 17-year-old Indian opener established a few records on Day 2 of the current one-off Test against England women in Bristol.
Shafali Verama would have become the first Indian batter to get a century in her Test debut. She fell short by four runs, but she set an Indian record for the greatest score in a women's Test debut. Shafali's 152-ball 96 surpassed Chanderkanta Kaul's 1995 score of 75 against New Zealand.
So far, only seven Indian women have scored hundreds in Tests. Only Sandhya Agarwal and Hemalatha Kala had more than one hundred Test wickets.
In addition, she became the first Indian woman to knock a six in her Test debut. Interestingly, Shafali tied the record for the most sixes hit by a woman in a Test inning. In Bristol, she struck two huge sixes, tying Alyssa Healy and Lauren Winfield-Joint Hill's record.
17-year-old Shafali Verma of India was also the second-youngest woman to get a fifty on Test debut. Johmari Logtenberg (74) of South Africa is the youngest at 14 years and 166 days, having played against England in 2003.
In India's first Test match in seven years, Shafali Verma and Smirti Mandhana spearheaded India's magnificent reaction to England's first innings score of 396/9 declared. 2 surpassed India's record for the highest opening stand against England in women's Test cricket. They scored 167 runs for the first wicket, breaking Sandhya Agarwal and Garji Banerjee's 153-run partnership against Australia in Melbourne in 1984.
Also, it was the second-highest score in overseas women's Test cricket. Caroline Atkins and Arran Brindle hold the record after scoring 200 runs for England against India in Lucknow in 2002.
Smriti Mandhana was out for 78 shortly after Shafali went out for 96. The young opener smashed 13 boundaries and two sixes, putting the England bowlers on the back foot.
