Election Commission say that all political parties in UP want elections to be held on time
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said this while interacting with the media after the commission visited the state to take stock of the situation after the spread of the new variant Omicron.

The Election Commission of India has said that all political parties want that the assembly elections for Uttar Pradesh to be held on time.
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said this while interacting with the media after the commission visited the state to take stock of the situation after the spread of the new variant Omicron.
The suggestions for the postponement of the election had come from the Allahabad High Court which had expressed its concern for the postponement of the election till the time situation becomes normal.
After this, the Election Commission visited UP and said that the political parties are in favour of getting the elections held on time amidst strict Covid-19 protocol.
The Chief Election Commissioner has also ensured that adequate steps will be taken to ensure that the Covid-19 protocol is not violated. He has said that even the voting hours will be increased by an hour.
As social distancing and wearing a mask is the key to providing protection against the new variant, Chandra said that steps will be taken to ensure people who come to vote will maintain a safe distance from each other. He also said that the Commission will formulate a detailed guideline and release it to be followed by both the political parties and the people of the state.
“Frontline workers will have to be fully vaccinated and we have also issued directions that every person in Uttar Pradesh should at least have one dose of vaccine,” Chandra said.
