A horrific incident took place in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, an elderly Muslim man in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad area was mercilessly beaten for not chanting the 'Jai Shri Ram' slogan.
On 5th June, in the town of Loni, the elderly man, Abdul Samad, was heading to a mosque to offer prayers where the incident occurred.
He was allegedly abducted by thugs who brought him to a remote location, beat him, and made him recite "Jai Shri Ram" and "Vande Mataram."
As per reports, the assailants suspected Samad of being a Pakistani spy. With a knife, one of the assailants threatened the elderly man. In this case, the Ghaziabad police have filed a complaint and arrested one guy, Pravesh Gujjar. Meanwhile the other assailants are being sought. Attackers allegedly chopped his beard and showed him a video of other Muslims being attacked, as per the victim.
Numerous cases of conflicts and violence have recently been recorded around the country over the singing of the "Jai Shri Ram" mantra. Further, a suspected ISIS member detained for preparing suicide bombings and serial explosives throughout the nation filed a complaint in a Delhi court last week, alleging that he was beaten up by other inmates in Tihar Prison and made to shout "Jai Shri Ram."
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, 49 notable personalities expressed their worry that the phrase "Jai Shri Ram" has become a battle cry.
The letter stated:
"Unfortunately, "Jai Shri Ram" has evolved into a provocative "war cry" that has resulted in law and order issues, as well as several lynching. Shockingly, so much violence is carried out in the name of religion! Many in India's majority group hold Ram's name in high regard."
