Education Minister Launches a new CBSE assessment framework for Classes 6 to 10
With the aim to improve the overall learning outcomes of students mainly covering three subjects — English (reading), Science, and Maths Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal launched the CBSE Assessment Framework with the British Council as part of the CBSE Competency-Based Education Project.
Today, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced a competency-based assessment framework for secondary level students based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. As per the council, the framework will substitute the “existing rote learning model and will focus on assessing students based on their competencies needed to solve day-to-day problems.”

To improve the overall learning outcomes of students mainly covering three subjects — English (reading), Science, and Maths Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal launched the CBSE Assessment Framework with the British Council as part of the CBSE Competency-Based Education Project.
And to accomplish the same, the question papers and assessment modes will be revised in a phased-manner over three to four years. As per CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, UT Chandigarh and private schools across the country will participate in the initial phase of the programme which will be rolled out to all 25,000 CBSE schools in India by 2024.
The suggested assessment framework has been put in place to drive improvement in the quality of teaching and implementation of changes recommended in the National Education Policy 2020.
CBSE stated that this project will directly support 15 education leaders, 2,000 school principals; 15 senior govt leaders; 180 test item writers; 360 master trainers, further which reshape 25,000 CBSE schools that include 2,000 JNV and KVs, 132,000 teachers and 20 million learners by 2024.
As the framework is the basis for a larger project exercise, currently underway where 40 assessment designers, 180 test item writers and 360 master trainer mentors are being trained in practising this framework to design a model question bank and collection of ideal lesson plans.
