The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday said it has seized cash worth Rs 20 crore in raids at the premises of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee in the alleged teacher recruitment scam. "This money is suspected to be linked to the SSC scam," the ED said in a statement. The investigation team is taking the help of bank officials to count the cash through the note counting machine. More than 20 mobile phones have also been recovered from Mukherjee's premises, the purpose and use of which is being ascertained. Besides Chatterjee, the ED raided the premises of Minister of State for Education Paresh C Adhikari, MLA Manik Bhattacharya and others, the statement said.
It is worth mentioning that Arpita is a close associate of Partha Chatterjee and it is suspected that this money was earned from the SSC scam. The search team is taking the help of bank officials to count the cash through the cash counting machine. Apart from this, many incriminating documents, information of suspicious companies, electronic equipment, foreign currency and gold have also been recovered from the premises of people associated with the scam.
The Kolkata High Court recently, in several writ petitions, ordered the CBI to investigate the recruitment scam of Group 'C' and 'D' employees, assistant teachers of classes 9th to 12th and primary teachers. In this case, the ED is probing money laundering.
