Double Delight For India: Thangavelu, Sharad Jumps High To Win Silver & Bronze
Indian medal tally reached 10 following the day’s events. Earlier, Singhraj Adhana won the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol SH1 event. On Tuesday India has won three medals that include 1 Silver and 2 Bronze. Thangavelu has won the second consecutive Paralympic medal. He became the first Indian high jumper to win the Gold medal at the Paralympic Games when he triumphed at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Mariyappan’s highest jump of 1.86m in the final has been a Season Best score. Sharad also finished with a Season Best jump of 1.83m en route to his Bronze medal.

Sharad has won his first medal in the Paralympic Games.In the T63 category Thangavelu jumped 1.86 meters and Sharad 1.83 meters. Varun Bhati’s campaign, however, ended in disappointment as he failed to clear the 1.80m mark in three attempts. He ended seventh out of nine competitors
On Tuesday all eyes were in the High Jump event. As Thangavelu, the last Paralympics Gold medal winner was a great contender for the Gold in Tokyo too but his luck didn’t favour this time and he has to settle with the Silver medal. Thangavelu lost to Same Grewe of the USA as he cleared the 1.88m mark in his third and final attempt while the Indian high jumper failed in all his three attempts. Mariyappan’s highest jump of 1.86m in the final has been a Season Best score. Sharad also finished with a Season Best jump of 1.83m en route to his Bronze medal. Both are classified under T42 category, i.e. athletes have one or more impairment types affecting hip and/or knee function in one or both limbs and with activity limitations.
