The incident took place a day before 15 August, India's 78th Independence Day. The violent event took place in Jammu region. An Army captain from 48 Rashtriya Rifles was tragically Matyred, the captain sustained critical injuries when he was rushed to the hospital where he lost his life, and a civilian was also injured.
The incident initially started around 7:30 in a dense forest area during a cordon and search operation (CASO) launched by a joint team to track down a group of terrorists who were hiding in the Shivgarh-Assar belt. They crossed into Doda from a forest near Patnitop. in the neighboring Udhampur district during the shooting.
4 Terrorists were led from which the army officials recovered 4 Rucksack bags in which they found M-4 carbines which indicates that they are completely armed. The Army official X account posted that a young captain had been injured while leading the operation.

“The search for the terrorists continues amidst heavy firefighting. One officer has been injured while leading the search party. War-like stores have been recovered as operations continue,” the White Knight Corps posted.
According to officials army's first encounter with terrorists was around 6 pm in Udhampur on Tuesday. They started exchanging gunshots, and the firing went on for half an hour until both sides stopped, A cordon was established overnight and they have started their search operation today.
Security agencies believe this isn't the only militant group that is moving into Doda. They believe there are many more in higher reaches of the district, which shares borders with Kashmir Valley, Ramban, and Udhampur districts, Kathua and Himachal Pradesh.

Searches in the Doda forest have been going on since 28 April when a terrorist group attacked a patrolling squad. The searches intensified after when a group of people ambushed army officers and killed an SPO.
Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said that “in light of the incidents in the recent past, proactive counter-terrorist operations continue… Accordingly, a joint operation with J&K Police was launched in General Area Urarbaggi, 10 kilometers North of Doda”.
