DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Air India.
DGCA has slammed Air India in the matter to immediately put in place a system to resolve the issue. Failure to do so will result in DGCA taking action again. If a passenger is denied boarding despite having a valid ticket and has reported at the airport on time, the airline concerned has to follow certain rules as per the DGCA.
The Aviation Regulator (DGCA) on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on airline Air India. In fact, despite having tickets in Air India flight, passengers have been refused boarding. Also, due compensation was not given to the passengers in return, due to which the DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Air India.
The DGCA found that the passengers from Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Delhi were not given proper compensation. Due to which a show cause notice was issued to Air India by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and a personal hearing was also held. According to the regulator, Air India does not have a policy on damages for which compensation has not been paid to its passengers.
Under this, if the airline arranges an alternate flight for the passenger within an hour, then they will not have to pay any compensation. But if the airline does not provide the optional facility in the next 24 hours, they will have to pay a compensation of Rs 10,000. Strict instructions have been implemented by DGCA for domestic airlines. The DGCA had received information last month that airlines were providing services in a wrong way, with airlines denying passengers boarding after having valid tickets.
