Dense Fog in Delhi NCR: Delhi is experiencing extremely cold weather, with temperatures dropping to 5°C. Thick fog has covered Delhi and the nearby National Capital Region (NCR) again, causing major problems in air travel.
Over 100 flights have been delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport due these conditions, as of Friday morning, January 10, 2025.
The air quality in the city is also concerning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) classified as 'severe.'
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city, considering the prevailing weather conditions.

The weather department warned that the conditions "may affect airports, highways and railway routes and difficult driving conditions with slower journey times".
Flight Disruption at IGI Airport
The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi issued an advisory at 4:30 am, warning passengers that flight operations may be disrupted today due to zero visibility. According to Flightrader, over 100 flights have been delayed in Delhi on Friday morning.
“Due to dense fog, there has been impact on flight departures, however, flights which are CAT III compliant are able to land and depart from Delhi airport,” DIAL stated.
IndiGo added, “We strongly recommend planning extra time for your journey to the airport as foggy conditions in Delhi are reducing visibility and slowing down traffic.”

Air Quality Plummets to ‘Severe’ Category
Delhi’s air quality took a turn for the worse, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) registering 409 at 6:05 am on Friday, categorising it as ‘severe’, according to the Sameer app. On Thursday, the city’s 24-hour average AQI reached 357, up from 297 the previous day. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) attributed this rise to "calm winds and foggy conditions."
