Delhi’s ‘Severe’ Air Quality Unchanged Despite Drizzle

Delhi’s ‘Severe’ Air Quality Unchanged Despite Drizzle: Delhi's air quality on Monday continued to remain in 'severe category with AQI touching to 406 even after the light rain in the morning for the second day, PTI reported.

Data as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 7 pm revealed that Anand Vihar saw an AQI up to 443. Wazirpur and Bawana recorded AQI of 460 and 476, respectively.
The major pollutant tracked was PM 2.5, which is particularly dangerous since it penetrates the lungs deeply when inhaled.
An AQI figure from 0 to 50 is considered "good", from 51 to 100 "satisfactory", from 101 to 200 "moderate", from 201 to 300 "poor", from 301 to 400 "very poor", and from 401 to 500 "severe".

As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi recorded a maximum temperature at 18.4 degrees Celsius which is 2.3 degrees short of that during the season's average following drizzle in parts of the city on a Monday morning. Besides, the minimum temperature was 8.6 degrees Celsius, which also lies below the threshold during this seasonal average.
The fog also tended to persist in the National Capital during the early hours of the morning such that the humidity ranged from 79% to as high as 95% throughout its period.
IMD predicts cloudy skies with light rain on Tuesday as well, with maximum and minimum temperatures estimating to stabilize at 19 and 9 degrees Celsius, respectively. The IMD has also announced below-normal cold wave days in north-western India this winter, reported news agency ANI.
GRAP stage IV measures continue to remain in force in Delhi-NCR since December 16 due to the deterioration in air quality.
