Delhi Waterlogged, Red Alert Issued Amid Heavy Rain as Traffic Jam Paralyses City; Atishi Reacts

Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning and a red alert was issued for most areas of the city for a three hour window from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.

Delhi Waterlogged, Red Alert Issued Amid Heavy Rain as Traffic Jam Paralyses City: Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning and a red alert was issued for most areas of the city for a three hour window from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. Airlines issued advisories to passengers about possible delays due to gusty winds and inclement weather.

Waterlogging was reported in several parts of Delhi and traffic was slow and movement was affected. ANI visuals showed commuters wading through rain hit roads.

Serious traffic jams were witnessed at important intersections and stretches, such as ITO, Dhaula Kuan, Naraina, Patel Nagar, Vijay Chowk, Jangpura, and Rohini. The widespread waterlogging in Delhi-Noida and other areas of NCR resulted in tremendous hardships for people traveling to offices.

A 'red alert' has also been issued for the eastern parts of the National Capital Region, while a 'yellow alert' remains in place for the rest of the areas.

According to the regional Met Centre, the ongoing rain spell is expected to continue till August 3.

IMD has said that the rain will continue till Monday afternoon. Due to the situation, IMD has issued a red alert for most parts of Delhi and asked people to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions as the monsoon rages on in the region.

According to IMD, Delhi received 8 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Tuesday. The minimum temperature was 26.8 degrees Celsius, 0.5 notch below the season’s average.

IMD has forecast a cloudy sky with moderate rain and maximum temperature will be around 30 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity was 70 per cent at 8.30 am.

The air quality was recorded in the satisfactory category at 9 am, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 87, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.

According to CPCB, AQI between 0-50 is good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor and 401-500 severe.
