Delhi School Bomb Sacre: Panic gripped parts of the city this week as nine bomb threats were sent to eight schools and one college in Delhi over three days, leading to evacuations and security checks. Although all were hoaxes, the frequency and timing has raised concerns among parents, educators and cops.

The threats, all via email, have targeted schools in Dwarka, Vasant Kunj, Hauz Khas, Chanakyapuri and Paschim Vihar and even St. Stephen’s College, one of Delhi University’s most prestigious institutions.

According to reports, the latest threats were received by schools in Dwarka at 5:26 am, Vasant Kunj at 6:30 am, Paschim Vihar at 8:11 am and Hauz Khas at 8:12 am. Bomb disposal squads, local police and cyber experts were deployed to each location for thorough checks but nothing suspicious has been found so far.

Two schools, St. Thomas in Dwarka and Vasant Valley School in Vasant Kunj had faced similar threats earlier and had to be evacuated and inspected in detail.

On Tuesday, St. Stephen’s College and St. Thomas School also received bomb threats via email. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia, St. Stephen’s received the threat at 7:15 am. “The mail claimed that four IEDs and two RDX bombs had been planted on the premises and in the library of the college. It further claimed they would explode by 2 pm,” he said.

A senior police officer said, "We received alerts early in the morning from schools about the emails. Teams of the bomb detection and disposal squad were sent with special cell officials. We are also looking into the email received. Nothing has been found yet. We ensured all parents and school staff had been alerted."
