Delhi Police's South Campus team nabbed domestic help for theft

A domestic help named Brijesh committed a theft in a house where he had been working for 17 years. After winning the trust of the house owner, Nalini Misra Tyab, he stole valuables and remained absent from the work for more than three months.
Tyab reported the matter to the South Campus Police Station that her servant, resident of Shastri Market Jhuggi in New Delhi, had not been coming to work since September 2021.
On checking her locker, she found that her gold ornaments, silver utensils, approximately cash of Rs. 80,000 and 5 shawls were missing. On her complaint, a case under the relevant section was registered and an investigation was taken up.
“The SHO constituted a team consisting of Sub-Inspector Uday Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Manmohan and constables Kanti Lal, Harikesh and Sultan. It conducted a raid at the residence of Brijesh Kumar. He was questioned and a post office certificate of Fixed Deposit of Rs 1, 00,000 and a mobile phone was recovered from his jhuggi. He was arrested immediately and 5 days PC remand was obtained,” Gaurav Sharma, DCP, South-West District, New Delhi, said.
After sustained interrogation Brijesh Kumar confessed that he had kept some ornaments at his native place in Gorakhpur, UP and sold some gold items to a 40-year-old goldsmith named Surender Verma.
The raiding party immediately took Brijesh to his native place and on January 11, 2022, a gold chain with a diamond locket and a pair of gold tops were recovered from his permanent residence.
“Further, on the instance of Brijesh Kumar, the team raided the house of the goldsmith, Surender Verma and after arresting him, recovered a gold ring and 50 gram melted gold (melted from the stolen gold items). Both the accused has been sent to judicial custody,” Sharma said.
