Delhi News: 'Supreme Court' hearing on Delhi MCD elections today, AAP has filed petition
Under the new delimitation, every assembly constituency in Delhi will be divided into at least three wards before the corporation elections. Officials say the population in each ward is likely to be between 65,000 and 67,000 after the delimitation.

There is going to be a big hearing in the Supreme Court today regarding the municipal elections of Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party has filed a petition in the Supreme Court for the early conduct of the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections. Hearing on this is going to take place today.
Aam Aadmi Party's petition has challenged the postponement of the elections. It has been said in the petition that the three MCDs were merged by the Central Government and now the elections are being delayed in the name of new delimitation. On the other hand, the delimitation committee has expedited the work of creating municipal wards in the national capital. It is being told that the work will be completed by November.

The Home Ministry has told the delimitation committee that Delhi will have only 250 wards, which are 22 less than before. Delhi consisted of 272 wards in the three erstwhile municipal corporations. The last delimitation in Delhi was done in 2016. The Center has constituted a 3-member delimitation committee last month. The delimitation committee, set up by the Center last month, has three members - Delhi's state election commissioner Vijay Dev, Pankaj Kumar Singh, joint secretary in the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs, and Randhir Sahai, additional commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Dev has been made the chairman of the committee.
