Delhi Mayor's election will be held on February 6, LG's seal on Kejriwal government's proposal

The Mayor's election in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be held on February 6. Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinay Kumar Saxena has approved the proposal of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Government. On February 6, there will be election of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and 6 members of Standing Committee in MCD. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has targeted the BJP after the announcement of the date for the election of the Mayor of MCD. He said, "People of Delhi were unhappy with BJP under the rule of MCD. People of Delhi voted for AAP to form government in MCD by trusting Arvind Kejriwal's guarantee. People of Delhi voted BJP after 15 years of rule. Defeated. Now the BJP is conspiring to block the election of the mayor."

Sisodia further said, 'It is expected that the Bharatiya Janata Party, respecting democracy, will allow the mayor's election to be held on February 6. BJP will now allow Aam Aadmi Party to become mayor. If the mayor of the Aam Aadmi Party works, then all the work will be done immediately." Earlier, the election of mayor and deputy mayor of MCD has been canceled twice due to ruckus. First of all, on January 5, there was a huge ruckus between AAP and BJP councilors in the MCD House. After which the proceedings of the House were cancelled. Then on January 24, a similar ruckus happened. After which the House of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was adjourned indefinitely.

273 councilors will vote in the mayor's election. A figure of 138 is needed for the majority. In the absence of the Congress, a figure of 133 is required. AAP currently has 134 councillors. Apart from this, there are 3 Rajya Sabha MPs and 13 MLAs. BJP has a total of 113 votes including 7 MPs and 1 MLA. At the same time, there are 9 councilors of Congress and two councilors of Independents. In this election, along with 250 corporators, 10 MPs (7 Lok Sabha MPs and 3 Rajya Sabha MPs), 13 assembly members will vote.
