Delhi Mayor Election: SC notice to Lt Governor on AAP's plea, LG had allowed voting to nominated members

The Supreme Court today issued notice to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and others on a petition filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) mayoral candidate Shaili Oberoi. Explain that LG's decision to allow nominated members to vote in the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in MCD was challenged by Shelly Oberoi. The court had on Tuesday accepted the petition filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) mayoral candidate Shelly Oberoi and others and allowed it to be heard on Wednesday. The mayor's election was once again postponed due to uproar in the House on Monday. After this, the case was mentioned on behalf of the AAP leader before a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Tuesday. In the petition, the court was demanded to conduct the election of the mayor soon.

Significantly, earlier on Tuesday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protested at the BJP office, alleging that the election of the mayor was stalled. During this, you said that BJP is repeatedly obstructing the mayoral election. Corporation is not allowing you to become mayor despite having absolute majority in the house. The protest was led by MLAs Saurabh Bhardwaj, Durgesh Pathak and Kuldeep Kumar. During this, AAP councillors, MLAs and workers raised slogans against LG and BJP.

Accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of obstructing the mayoral election, BJP leaders staged a protest. In protest outside the AAP office, state BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva said that the struggle will continue till the mayor is found. He accused the AAP councilors of creating ruckus in the Municipal Corporation House and violating the rules. He said that Delhi should get a mayor and for this your councilors will have to maintain decorum. If not, then there are other ways to keep the BJP within limits. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ramveer Singh Bidhuri said that AAP corporators have attacked women corporators of BJP. He will be punished by the law. BJP candidate Rekha Gupta will become mayor. The victory of the BJP candidate is certain on other posts as well.
