Delhi Heatwave to Persist Till Wednesday, IMD Predicts Relief From Thursday

Delhi Heatwave: Heatwave conditions are expected to persist until Wednesday, but the weather may shift from Thursday, with a possible drop in temperature.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended the yellow alert until Wednesday, thus Delhi is likely to continue to suffer from the severe heat on Tuesday.

“Three stations -- Safdarjung, Ridge and Ayanagar -- met the heatwave criteria today, marking the first day of heatwave conditions this season. These conditions are likely to continue until April 9. From April 10 onwards, a drop in temperature is expected over Northwest India, including Delhi,” the IMD said in a statement, reported PTI.

Delhi continues to face intense heat, with maximum temperatures peaking at 41°C on 7th, 8th, and 9th April under mainly clear to partly cloudy skies. However, a shift in weather is expected midweek. On 10th April, thunderstorms are predicted, bringing potential relief from the scorching heat.

The heat index, often referred to as the "feels-like" temperature, combines air temperature and relative humidity to estimate the human-perceived temperature.

"The maximum temperature over Delhi NCR varied from 45.2 degrees Celsius to 49.1 degrees Celsius in different parts of city, Mungeshpur reported 52.9 degrees Celsius as an outlier compared to other stations. It could be due to an error in the sensor or a local factor. IMD is examining the data and sensors," it said.

The IMD predicted warm night conditions are very likely to prevail over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on May 30.

The IMD said that a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius is very likely over East India during the next three days and gradually fall by 3-4 degrees Celsius thereafter. It added that no significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over the remaining parts of the country.
