Heatwave Action Plan: The Delhi government on Monday unveiled the “Delhi Heat Action Plan 2025” to tackle the severe heatwave anticipated this year, as April temperatures were higher than usual.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled the plan on Monday, which includes measures such as an early warning system for heatwave, green roofs at bus stops, and special wards for heatstroke patients in all hospitals.
"Our mission is to make Delhi heat-resilient, protect lives and make every season livable for its residents," the chief minister said.

She said the government has been working extensively to reduce the impact of heatwaves, which have become increasingly frequent and intense, with the temperature in Delhi going as high as 52.9 degrees Celsius.
As part of the plan, the government has asked hospitals to create dedicated wards equipped with ICU beds and essential medicines for heatstroke patients.
Cooling centres will also be set up in densely populated areas, especially near footpaths and slums.
Jointly developed by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the HAP outlines several measures such as establishing cooling centres in public spaces like temples, malls, and temporary night shelters during heat alerts.

Schools will adjust hours to avoid operating during peak heat times (12 noon to 4 pm) to protect children.
The chief minister virtually inaugurated three pilot Cool Roof projects in Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar, and the Delhi Secretariat, with more to follow. The launch event was attended by the health, PWD, and water ministers, along with top government officials.
