Delhi Govt Formation LIVE: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to form the next government in Delhi after more than 26 years, winning 48 of the 70 Assembly seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 22 seats meanwhile the Congress drew a blank in the polls held on February 5.
According to BJP sources, the new Delhi Chief Minister's oath ceremony is likely to take place after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his visit to the US this week. The swearing-in ceremony will be a grand event marking the BJP's return to power in Delhi after 26 years, and the Chief Ministers of all NDA-ruled states will be invited.
“The meetings were held in groups featuring MLAs from each of the seven parliamentary constituencies. A general introduction took place and the party gave a clear direction on what to do. All MLAs were told to go to the people and thank them for their support. For about four to five days, we will engage with the people of Delhi,” said an MLA who attended the meeting.

The BJP, which approached the election without announcing a Chief Ministerial face, has started high-level meetings to decide the head of government, with five leaders emerging as key contenders.
PM Modi is scheduled to visit the United States on February 12-13 for his first meeting with US President Donald Trump in his second term. The party is expected to stake claim to power next week after the PM's return from the foreign and the oath taking is likely to be held afterwards, sources said.
The government formation and swearing in would be a grand affair with all BJP and NDA partners and CMs in attendance. Asked about the potential CM candidate, a senior MLA said, “Anyone saying a name is lying because no one knows.”

Other leaders pointed to BJP’s surprise picks for CM posts in Rajasthan (Bhajan Lal Sharma); MP (Mohan Yadav); Chhattisgarh (Vishnu Deo Sai) and Odisha (Mohan Majhi) to say “only the top brass knows who the Delhi CM will be”.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that the decision to pick the Chief Minister will be taken by the party's central leadership, also suggesting the possibility of a fresh face coming to the top post. The party also did not rule out the possibility of its national leadership placing its bet on a woman candidate for the Delhi chief minister's post.
On Saturday evening, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, and other leaders at the party headquarters. However, it remains unclear whether they discussed the chief ministerial candidates and government formation.
