Delhi Flood Report: Yamuna River water level to rise above 207 meters tonight, people being shifted to safe places

There is an ongoing risk of floods in the capital city of Delhi. Efforts are being made to relocate people to safe places along the banks of the Yamuna River. The Delhi government has already shifted thousands of affected individuals to safe locations. Currently, the water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi is at 206.76 meters, surpassing the danger mark of 205.33 meters.

According to the flood report issued by the Delhi government, the water level of the river at Old Railway Bridge (ORB) was 206.76 meters at 8 PM last night. As per the Central Water Commission (CWC), the water level is expected to reach 207.00 meters by 3 AM on July 12, with a possibility of further increase. Rescue and relief operations have deployed 45 boats and NDRF teams.

Delhi government relocates people to safe places

The Delhi government has informed on Tuesday that thousands of people residing in flood-prone areas along the Yamuna River have been temporarily shifted to temporary shelters and provided with food and water. Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Jal Minister of the Aam Aadmi Party-led government under Arvind Kejriwal's leadership, stated that the evacuation process is underway.

Facilities for more than 2700 tents arranged

Saurabh Bharadwaj mentioned that affected individuals are being relocated to the eastern, northern, northeast, southeast, central, and Shahdara districts of Delhi, where arrangements for more than 2700 tents have been made. The minister stated that the increase in the water level of the Yamuna River is due to the heavy influx of water from Haryana, but there is no possibility of flooding in Delhi.

No flooding expected in Delhi

He further assured that there will be no flooding in Delhi. As soon as the water level of the Yamuna River rises, people residing along the banks will be evacuated. There is no danger of water entering the residential areas near the river.

The majority of the relocated individuals have been given shelter in tents set up in the eastern district (1700), along with 280 in the northeast district, 170 in Shahdara, 150 in the central district, and 384 in the southeast district. The minister stated that shelter facilities have also been prepared in the northern district, where food, water, and other amenities have been provided.
