Delhi Crime News : Custom seized seven watches from Delhi airport, one worth 27 crores

Goods worth Rs 28.17 crore have been recovered from a Gujarat jeweler who returned from Dubai at IGI Airport. The most valuable of the recovered items is a diamond studded watch. The value of this watch studded with diamonds from Jacob & Co. is 27.09 crores. A total of seven watches, a bracelet and an iPhone were recovered from the accused.

The value of none of the recovered watches is less than 14 lakhs. After interrogating the accused, the Custom Department officials are trying to get to the bottom of the matter. It is being ascertained that on whose behest the accused had brought these watches for whom. Terming the seizure as a major seizure, the customs officer said that this achievement should be understood with the fact that the value of the goods recovered is equivalent to the value of 60 kg of gold.

Nisha Gupta, Joint Commissioner of Customs, said that the accused passenger had reached Delhi from Dubai on October 4 on Emirates Airlines flight EK 516. After the immigration clearance, he was trying to exit the terminal by crossing the Green Channel. Meanwhile, the accused was stopped during the regular random checking conducted by the customs.

The custom officer says that the person who has been caught is a resident of Junagadh in Gujarat. It has been found in the investigation that he had booked a room in a five star hotel for his stay in Delhi. Customs officials are investigating to find out whether this consignment of watches was bought by him for himself or his acquaintances, or whether it was intended to sell the watches at a higher price.
