Delhi Cold Wave: Temperature Hits 6.4°C, IMD Forecasts Rain for Himachal Pradesh and Nearby States

Delhi Cold Wave: Worsening conditions intensify in front of north India as an increased cold wave has been recorded since Wednesday, affecting night temperatures below freezing-point in Kashmir Valley; mercury approaching near freezing point in parts of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh; Delhi logging a drop in temperature.
Fog-shrouded Delhi has recorded significant imprints on the Thursday morning temperature, restricted at 6.4 degrees Celsius, against the 8-11 being recorded for the last couple of days.

While same says the India Meteorological Department (IMD) that logged Delhi's temperature at 6.4 degrees Celsius reading against the 5.30 am of Thursday, the weather monitoring agency also predicted that the minimum would be somewhere around just 5 degrees for the day besides hovering towards the maximum at around 21 degrees Celsius.
At the same time, the AQI of Delhi remained "poor" on Thursday morning, as it did the whole of the previous day.
Meanwhile, the Central Pollution Control Board data showed the air quality recorded poor, 287 at 6 am according to the report.

Rain, snow forecast: As per the IMD, northwestern parts of India are likely to witness some rain and snow later during the week due to the western disturbance. The IMD added in its Wednesday update that there will be a decrease in minimum temperature by around 2 degrees Celsius in northwest India in the next 24 hours and a subsequent gradual rise of up to 2-4 thereafter.
The meteorological department has also forecast cold wave condition likely in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab on Thursday and Friday; Rajasthan on Friday; Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh on Friday and Saturday.
Delhi temp drops sharply: Most witnessed sunny Delhi afternoon on Wednesday; awoke Thursday with a kind of moderate fog in most areas. Noida and Ghaziabad, adjoining Delhi, were under fog too. According to the IMD's 5:30 am data, Delhi experienced a severe drop in temperature Thursday morning with mercury hovering around 6.4 degrees Celsius. For the past few days, the city has been recording temperatures around 8 to 11 degrees Celsius at the same time.

Delhi comes under ambient air quality in category 'poor' on Thursday morning, with AQI at 299 at 7 am according to the Central Pollution Control Board data. The AQI from zero to 50 is termed 'good', from 51 to 100 'satisfactory', from 101 to 200 'moderate', from 201 to 300 'poor', from 301 to 400 'very poor', and from 401 to 500 'severe.'
Himachal Pradesh: Several areas of this hill state are facing freezing temperatures. Tabo, located in the tribal Lahaul and Spiti district, recorded the lowest night temperature, at minus 13.6 degrees Celsius last night. Officials from a news agency have reported PTI, which went on to say that mid and high hills might see snow on Saturday and Sunday. Like Wednesday, a yellow warning for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra and Mandi districts is in effect for Thursday.
Kashmir weather: Cold night temperatures have again brought respite to Jammu and Kashmir in the Kashmir Valley, during the period above freezing. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1 degree Celsius, down from the previous night's 0.9 degrees. The city has seen bright sunshine in the morning. Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 9.8 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous night's minus 6.6 degrees, and it has been recorded as the coldest place in the valley.
