Decline of Diesel Cars in India
Decline of Diesel Cars in India: Mercedes-Benz Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Lance Bennett gave some insight on its diesel cars. He revealed that half of its car sales are from India and most of these sales are Diesel cars.
This means that diesel cars are more important in India and also for the company than Petrol and electric cars.
As per the reports sales of diesel cars have dropped from 40% in 2017 to 19% in 2023 of the contribution of diesel car to the PV volumes in India.
Car&bike reported that Lance Bennett said, “It (diesel) represents roundabout 54 percent of our sales, 6 percent is EVs and the balance is petrol. So it's still skewed towards diesel but we're happy to offer each of those powertrains to our customers. We're seeing that some markets are a bit more receptive towards petrol models due to emission norms."
Mercedes-Benz Continues to offer diesel cars in India whether it is premium cars or normal cars it offers diesel engine options in every car. However, BMW also sells diesel cars in India but companies like Audi and Volvo have shifted their focus and production to petrol and EV cars.
As per the reports, Mercedes has sold around 5412 units as of March in India and earned around ₹10 thousand crore last year in India.
