Cyclone Fengal Landfall Time and Location: The deep depression that had formed over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, which was first expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm, is now expected to weaken into a depression by the time it nears the northern coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It is now being projected by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) that the system would further weaken and make landfall with winds of 45-55 km/h, gusting to 65 km/h.

Impact on coastal areas: The depression in the Bay of Bengal is now affecting Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coastal regions, especially Chennai, and surrounding districts. Since it is moving northwest, the IMD has advised to remain alert and follow safety measures for people living in these areas.
High alert to coastal authorities: Coastal Tamil Nadu authorities are therefore asked to be vigilant about the landfall approach, and measures are being taken accordingly to support any eventualities that could affect the place.
Advisory for the fishermen: The IMD has given warnings of rough seas and has generally told fishermen to avoid the sea. Moderate to heavy rains along with gusty winds are expected to affect the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
School and College to Remain closed in Puducherry: All schools and colleges in Puducherry, including privately-managed and government-aided institutions, will observe closure on November 29 and 30 owing to the heavy rain predictions associated with Cyclone Fengal.
India Navy Preparedness: The Indian Navy has activated its full-fledged disaster response plan based on the intensification of Cyclone Fengal over the Bay of Bengal, which threatens the significant buffer that Tamil Nadu has along the coast. This has set measures with a strong disaster response strategy at the level of Eastern Naval Command, coordinating with HQTN&P. The navy-oriented towards saving lives and property will probably minimize potential impacts from the cyclone.
