Delhi Police chief launches E-learning platform ‘Unnati’ for youth to get training, jobs

A school dropout will no longer be deprived of the mainstream learning process in Delhi. The Commissioner of Police in Delhi, Rakesh Asthana, has launched “Unnati”, an e-Learning platform at the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Auditorium.

It is an initiative taken by the South West District of Delhi Police under the flagship scheme YUVA. The purpose is to help those youngsters who come from the weaker sections of society. They are generally deprived of the formal education and skills to realise their dreams of a secure future.

Through this e-learning platform, these youngsters are inspired to enrol and choose the program of their choice. “Unnati” portal has been designed in a very simple way. “Anyone can learn from anywhere through a laptop, desktop, tablet or simply a mobile phone. It provides training and side-by-side placement to trainees. The features of this platform comprise counselling, training and placement,” Gaurav Sharma, DCP, South West District, said.

“It is an effective open learning system and live online classes is the speciality of this program. It also makes available the recordings of the session once it is over so that any trainee who missed the live class can go through it again,” Sharma added.

On the successful completion of the e-Learning course, a certificate is awarded which helps the holder in getting placement. The courses offered include Digital Literacy Course comprising Basic Computer courses, Typing training, preparatory courses for Competitive exams and Sports courses etc.

“Unnati” Placement Cell has also been set up, which would help in getting placement to these trained youth. Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Rakesh Asthana hailed “Unnati” as an effective initiative to strengthen the chord of togetherness with society.

The CP, Delhi emphasised that every year over 1.5 lakh persons are arrested by Delhi Police for various crimes and more than 85 per cent of the arrested persons are first-timers, while only 10-15% are repeat offenders.

“Community policing initiatives like YUVA & Unnati target that these 85% do not fall in the web of crime and they get a chance to take a fresh shot at life and join the mainstream as builders of society,” Asthana said.

He also felicitated YUVA trainees who have got jobs and are supporting their family livelihood. He said he had gone through the profiles of YUVA trainees felicitated and he was deeply touched by their dedication to overcoming the odds which were against them.

“Although police work is about containing and solving crime, however at any given moment a policeman is providing selfless service to the general public especially from weaker sections of society,” he said urging the media persons to cover social and community services provided by the Delhi Police.

He advised the youngsters among the audience to stay away from drugs, which are the root cause of most crimes. “This Unnati scheme would be replicated in other districts of Delhi under the PPP model and with the help of YUVA stakeholders,” he said.
