10 states Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Gujarat have more than 1,000 active cases.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will chair a high-level review meeting with a core team of experts on the increasing cases of Covid-19 in the country. Official sources have given this information. The country has been witnessing an increase in corona virus infection in the last few weeks.
The directive was issued to investigate the possibility of any newly emerging variant or sub-variant and to find out the reasons behind the infection. According to experts from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), Omicron and its variants are mainly behind the current increase in BA.2 (BA.2) and BA.2.38 (BA.2.38) COVID cases. BA.2 and related viruses have been found in 85 percent of the cases, BA.2.38 has been found in 33 percent of the samples.
The source said that BA.4 and BA.5 were found in less than 10 per cent of the samples. In the last review meeting it was said that till now there is no variant of concern in the country. In India there are now BA.4 and BA.5 in addition to BA, which have slightly higher infectivity than other Omicron sublines.
