Covid-19 Still Remains a Matter of International Concern - WHO says

Three years after issuing the highest-level global warning regarding Covid-19, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday that the epidemic still remains an international emergency. The Emergency Committee of the United Nations (UN) Health Agency on Covid-19 met last Friday for the 14th time since the start of the epidemic. After the meeting, a statement from the WHO said, the head of the organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, agrees with the advice of the committee regarding the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic. Covid still remains a matter of concern at the international level.

The statement said Tredos accepts the Committee's view that COVID-19 is likely at a transition point and appreciates the Committee's advice on how to navigate it and minimize its negative consequences. We do. Before the meeting of the committee, the WHO chief, referring to the deaths due to corona, had said that the emergency phase of the epidemic is not over yet. He told the committee at the beginning of the meeting, “We have entered the fourth year of the pandemic. We are certainly in a much better position now than we were a year ago, when the Omicron wave was at its peak, and every week More than 70,000

deaths were being reported to WHO."

Tredos said that the weekly death rate had come down to below 10,000 in October but it started increasing again in the beginning of December. There was an increase in the number of deaths after the restrictions on Kovid were relaxed in China. He said that in the middle of January, about 40 thousand deaths were reported in a week due to Kovid, out of which more than half of the deaths were in China. The death toll is certainly much higher than this.
