COVID-19: 50 million doses of covaccine to expire by early 2023
Sources said that Bharat Biotech has more than 200 million doses of the vaccine in bulk form. About five million doses are in ready-to-use vials. If these dosages prepared in vials are not used, they will expire early next year. Expiration of these doses will result in loss to the company. However, it is not known how much loss this will cause to the company.

By early next year, 50 million doses of Covaccine will expire. Bharat Biotech is the first company in the country to make indigenous vaccine. Bharat Biotech stopped production of Covaxin earlier this year due to lack of demand. Earlier, the company had achieved one billion annual production capacity at the end of last year.

India on Saturday reported 1,082 fresh COVID-19 cases while the number of active cases came down to 15,200, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. Under the nationwide vaccination campaign, 219.71 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines including Covaccine have been given so far. Since the infection rate is declining rapidly globally, the export of the vaccine has been badly affected by foreign countries.
"COVID-19 is no longer considered a threat globally," the sources said. In April this year, the World Health Organization (WHO) said it had confirmed the suspension of the supply of the vaccine through UN procurement agencies and recommended that countries using the vaccine take appropriate action.
