All judges of all courts in India, from the district courts to the Supreme Court, must consider the constitutional vision of securing justice, equality and liberty. The Chief Justice said it was important to increase the representation of marginalized communities and women in the legal profession and the judiciary. The Chief Justice said- We need to introspect on our actions and decisions and question our own prejudices and preconceptions. Because, unless we open our minds to a variety of views about people with different experiences, we will fall short in our roles as judges.
The District Judiciary is the first contact of the people with the judicial system and it is essential that it is strengthened and supported. The District Judiciary should be uplifted from the mentality of being a subordinate judiciary. He said that the 'paramount challenge' before the judiciary as an institution in a country as large and diverse as India is to ensure that the justice delivery system is accessible to all.
