Controversies Behind OTT Platform And Series: Since OTT platforms were introduced in 2008, several OTT shows had to deal with intense controversy and disapproval from their audience due to violation of some particular norms and culture.

The growth of OTT platforms has provided us with a convenient watching experience, it allows us to watch top content from anywhere. OTT platforms were meant to show truth and uncensored scenes.

The values of self-censorship content have spread through and filled in every part of the Streaming industry.

OTT films got hatred from the Indian audience claiming that they violated the culture of Hinduism, films like Tandav featuring Saif Ali Khan got a lot of hatred and trolls when it was released on 15 January 2021.

Tandav was said to have violated the sentiments of religion, a scene from the show that featured Lord Shiva's hypocritical statement about ‘azaadi.’ The film got a lot of disapproval from its audience, even claiming to ban this series.

Another film that received intense public arguments is ‘Annapoorani’ which featured Nayanthara in the main role.

A scene from ‘Annapoorani’ depicts Nayanthara in a hijab offering Namaz prior to preparing Briyani when one of her friends influences her to chop meat by asserting that both Lord Rama and Goddess Sita have meat, the film also got hatred for promoting ‘Love Jihad’.

Also, the famous OTT Series ‘Mizapur’ got allegations that the series had obstructed the state of Uttar Pradesh and also claimed that scenes from Mizapur had violated the feelings of Hindus, such allegations even led the series to the Supreme Court.

Most of these allegations are imposed by right-wing groups, thus the government will start censoring OTT shows by claiming it is an ‘Offensive Material’. Thus, this gives rise to the question of whether the ‘offenses material’ will object to its allegation.

Thus, these developments give rise to a controversial topic that these ‘offensive Materials’ have nothing to do with the film but have become a powerful source to manipulate social and political aspects.

It has been said that protesters are all together offended as they come from the same party as shared one community and are unplanned and emotional over ‘offensive contents.’

Just Like riots, protests are often planned and paid for. Thus this implies that spontaneous protests, which are often about religion are not logical.

Is there any other way to say something without making people angry, when you know the kind of information that could make political groups get together? If you look at the scenes that are being censored, you will notice they are not that important scenes of the show, removing them won’t make anything the show less interesting.

India reports that it supports the freedom of speech, but producers think seeing their show getting allegations that it doesn't really.
