A viral video of Congress Spokesperson, Supriya Shrinate, has the social media abuzz, and is trending on Twitter with hashtag #Naali_ka_keeda. Netizens are busy sharing their opinions.
PM Narendra Modi has completed his 7 years as head of the Government. Media outlets are analysing through surveys or shows how much of a difference the two years of second tenure of Modi has made to the lives of Indians. Most media houses (in local parlance called Godi media) are full of praise while some (including all foreign media) are lambasting him for an extremely dismal and pathetic governance. Recently, his veneer has been stripped by foreign media which has been extremely critical to the extent of comparing him to Nero fiddling while Rome was burning.
The Indian TV shows are still discussing the functioning of government and their failures and successes in their shows – without being unbiased and calling out the truth. One such debate, aired recently, featured Congress Spokesperson Supriya Shrinate and ruling party spokesperson Sambit Patra.
Supriya Shrinate was blaming the government for rampant unemployment of youth, increase in poverty due to demonetization, abysmal failure in tackling Covid-19 pandemic, etc. She said that BJP wanted to project a pro-poor image, but poor have been harmed the most under the present regime and was also of the opinion that this tenure has brought democratic institutions of the country to its knees.
Further, she enquired Sambit Patra why the present government shies away from even naming China – is it fear? Comparing the present government with Late Indira Gandhi’s regime when the geography of the World was forever changed, by dividing the erstwhile unified Pakistan, into two. At this showing of mirror, Sambit Patra was visibly annoyed, which resulted into a hot debate between the two.
To add further salt to Sambit’s wounds Supriya said that in the land of Gandhi – those who worship Godse (the right-wing killer of father of nation - Gandhiji) show off the fact that the topmost leaders of BJP follow them as a badge of honour. This is what happens in the name of ‘freedom of speech’, How many times has action been taken against such people? Isn’t it ‘treason’ (desh-drodh)? Isn’t it a crime against the country?
Sambit Patra, in a fit of anger, went on to accuse Congress of treason, saying that when the two armies were eye-to-eye in Doklam – Gandhi family was caught under the Chinese tent. He further accused Congress leaders, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, questioning their travel to China in 2008, where he accused them of benefitting monetarily after signing certain documents. All these accusation have no basis – since these oft repeated barbs have never been substantiated by documents or data - ever.
She accused Patra of kite-flying and misrepresentation; and challenged him to debate on any issue based on data or documents. This is where Sambit seems to have really lost the plot. In the meanwhile the anchor interjects and wants to close the discussion with Sambit getting to address the viewers with the last words. Supriya – seeing this will help in weaving a fictitious positive imagery for BJP – interjected to the privilege being provided to Sambit.
When Sambit seems to have been given such a privilege Supriya in undertones – conspiringly said that he will now get into theatrics – to this Sambit Patra retorted that Rahul Gandhi was a “Jocker” – this infuriated Supriya. And she said that Sambit will now start ‘Jokarpanti’. Sambit Patra then went on to call Supriya various names likes uneducated, unlettered, uncouth, uncultured woman – which brought the worst out of the Congress Spokesperson who branded Sambit as a ‘a worm of a dirty drain’ and who was ‘do caudi-ka’ (valueless / of extremely low level).
