Congress formed a three-member committee to resolve internal problems, after Amarinder-Sidhu feud

The panel is anticipated to balance out any internal rifts, factionalism, and bickering inside the Punjab Congress in the run-up to the 2022 assembly elections.

Congress formed a three-member committee to resolve internal problems, after Amarinder-Sidhu feud

The Punjab Congress is embroiled in an internal fight with less than a year till the assembly elections. The Congress' top leader, Sonia Gandhi, organised a three-member committee on Friday to address concerns among the party's leaders in Punjab, amid an open feud between Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and his former cabinet colleague Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Everything appeared to have returned to normal after the meeting, at least for the time being. The ceasefire, on the other hand, was short-lived. In reality, the knives have been returned, but the Cabinet reshuffle to include Sidhu has not yet occurred.

CM's challenge, unfortunately, does not stop there. After becoming displeased with Amarinder, some 20 Punjab MLAs are said to have sought high command. As a result, a three-member committee was created, consisting of Mallikarjun Kharge, JP Agarwal, and state-in-charge Harish Rawat. The committee will meet with the enraged MLAs. The fact that the CM was not informed about the formation of this committee is said to have upset him.

The handling of the Punjab problem by the Congress leadership demonstrates the party's stagnation and degeneration. There is no second tier of authority in Punjab. The Congress is well aware that the CM has no love lost for Sidhu, who is said to have the Gandhis' support. Months before the state poll, the committee might convey a message that Amarinder is on his own. In the last state elections, Amarinder had to put pressure on the top leadership to name him the CM face.

The makeup of the crisis management committee now demonstrates that the Congress' senior leadership confronts yet another difficult task in dealing with the issue. Mallikarjun Kharge, who was in control of Maharashtra at the time, was unable to quell a mutiny within the state Congress. Both JP Agarwal and Harish Rawat may be deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafen

Sidhu, for one, is not passing up any opportunity to take a dig at the CM. The major issue he has taken up is the emotional one of Kotkapura's termination. Sidhu has posted a 2016 video showing the CM vowing to imprison the Badals for the event, even as he claimed that Amarinder was now protecting the Badals. “Big brag, tiny roast,” he joked in a tweet. Sidhu has also accused the CM, who also controls the home ministry, of being to blame for a sloppy and sluggish investigation.

Despite issues, there is no local leader in the state who can compete with Amarinder's popularity.

The Congress is now enraged about the Covid-19 outbreak, with both Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi criticising the administration and Prime Minister for what they describe as ineptitude in dealing with the pandemic. Nevertheless, it is unclear whether this will help boost demoralised party personnel. The Congress organisation is in ruins in state after state. The Congress is unable to reproduce the firepower displayed on social media on the actual battlefield.
