Congress again expresses concern about EVM security, complains to Election Commission

The Congress has once again expressed concern over the security of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in Gujarat and complained to the Election Commission on Thursday. It has taken this step in the backdrop of allegations that the Gujarat Police will look after the security of the EVMs. Voting for the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections was completed on Thursday. The Congress has written a letter to the Election Commission asking it to probe the allegations of electoral fraud in Gujarat. He alleged that the Gujarat Police is responsible for the maintenance of the EVMs and it has to ensure its security after the elections are over.

Congress spokesperson and social media head Supriya Shrinate said that several battalions of 'Tripura State Rifles' (TSR) have been deployed in Gujarat, but it has come to the notice of the party that these jawans are not allowed to go near polling booths. Pranav Jha, coordinator in the Congress president's office, said the direction given to TSR raises serious doubts about the process of free and fair elections. “The election process is being tampered with. That's why we have demanded an inquiry.
