The Communist Party of China, in a resolution issued at the end of its two-decade congress (session), on Saturday opposed Taiwan's independence in its constitution. "The convention agrees to incorporate statements from the party's constitution to strongly oppose and deter separatists seeking Taiwan's independence," the resolution said. The week-long Congress of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) in China passed several resolutions on Saturday, including the election of the party's central committee and changes to its constitution to give more powers to President Xi Jinping. Jinping has been the party's general secretary since 2012 and is expected to propose a new standing committee for his third term.
