The government has announced the beginning of the vaccination process for children between the age of 15 to 18 from January 1, 2022.
There are two vaccines that will be available on CoWIN app for them.
The first one, manufactured by Bharat Biotech, is Covaxin which is a double-dose vaccine. Children need to take two doses of this vaccine to complete the full course of vaccination.
Another one is made by Zydus Cadila which is called ZyCoV-D. It is a three-dose vaccine and kids need to take all three doses after a prescribed duration of time to complete the vaccination process.
The drug controller of India has given emergency use authorisation for both vaccines.
Besides, these two, there are a couple of other vaccines also which is in the process of development and approval and in due course, they can also become a part of the immunisation process.
According to the government, children can log in to the CoWIN app and use their school’s identification card to complete the registration process.
The ID card has been considered as a document for the registration because it has been that a lot of kids might not have Aadhar Card with them and so they might get deprived of the vaccination process.
