Child marriage: More than 60 people arrested in Morigaon

Assam Police is continuously arresting people in various districts of the state after Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma directed to take strict measures against child marriage. In this episode, more than 60 people have been arrested in Morigaon district.

The District Superintendent of Police said on Friday that more than 60 people involved in child marriage have been arrested. Separate special teams have been formed in 9 police stations of the district. The team is running a continuous campaign.

No one involved in child marriage will be spared. Apart from child marriage, legal action will be taken under the POCSO Act. Apart from Qazi, Pandit involved in child marriage, parents will also not be spared. 224 child marriage cases have been registered in 9 police stations of the district, this number will increase further.

The CPRO of Assam Police informed that all officers of Assam Police participated in the meeting held today. During this many decisions were taken. Of these, all district SP offices and the Assam Police Headquarters will ensure that an officer is available every working day from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm to interact with the public from February 13. The SPs of all districts shall establish a system to ensure that all personnel working in their jurisdiction compulsorily get weekly off, except for contingencies. However, this will not be applicable to those holding charge posts (including ICs and OCs of OPs and PSs). Name plates of all personnel should be in local language or bilingual, to ensure better visibility with the public. The Director General of Police encouraged all the officers and personnel.
