Chief Justice Of India DY Chandrachud Says Judges Reluctant To Grant Bail For Fear Of Being Targeted
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Saturday said judges at the grassroots are reluctant to grant bail due to the fear of being targeted.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has said that district judges hesitate to grant bail in heinous crimes. This is the reason why cases of bail petitions have increased in the High Courts. He said this during the felicitation ceremony organized by the Bar Council of India. During this, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was also present with him.
He said that the judges at the district level are reluctant to grant bail, not because they do not understand the crime. Rather, he is afraid of being targeted after being granted bail. No one talks about this fear, which we should. Because until we don't do this, we are making the District Courts less sharp and the High Courts useless.
The CJI said that there is a lot of improvement in the district judiciary, but first of all we have to bring a sense of respect for it. I always say that the District Judiciary is not subordinate. It holds the same importance in the National Judiciary as that of the High Court or the Supreme Court. SC can take big decisions, but District Court deals with small matters which give peace, happiness and confidence to common citizens.
When we decide in the Supreme Court in an administrative capacity, we are looking at things from a national perspective. Keep in mind that there are always two sides to a legal or social issue. Do question the people sitting in power, but also learn to trust them. We must trust that they will work for the good.
