Chaturmas 2024: Chaturmas is celebrated in a four-month period beginning with Ashadha month, followed by Shravan, Bhadrapad, Ashwin, and ends in Kartik months in the Hindu calendar. These four months are believed to be the holiest period and hold a huge spiritual significance to the Hindus.
Devotees across India celebrate Chaturmas by following fastings and performing puja rituals, prayers, and festivals.
In Chaturmas, Lord Vishu sleeps in Ksheer Sagar, which means "milky ocean,” and wakes up in Kartik month. Doing only pujas in these months is believed to be auspicious.
Chaturmas 2024 Start & End Dates
Chaturmas, the four-month period starts on July 17 on the eleventh lunar day of the Ashadha month and goes on for four months till Dev Uthani Ekadashi i.e. November 12.
Chaturmas 2024 Rituals
On these special periods of four months, to perform rituals devotees should follow the following mentioned ways:
- Devotees should wake up early and perform pujas after taking a holy bath.
- They should perform fasting during specific Maun Vrat and are restricted to eating particular foods.
- They should spend time reading the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, and Shiva Chalisa.
- Devotees should also visit temples, perform aarti, and offer flowers to the Lord.
- They should also perform several charitable works and perform Bhagavat Pujan.
