Champions Trophy 2025 India Squad Live Updates: Rohit Sharma to Lead, Bumrah’s Inclusion in Doubt

Jasprit Bumrah experienced a back spasm during the fifth Test in Sydney between India and Australia, owing to which he could not bowl in the second innings. BCCI is still silent on Bumrah's status.

Champions Trophy 2025 India Squad Live Updates: Rohit Sharma to Lead, Bumrah’s Inclusion in Doubt

Champions Trophy 2025 India Squad Live Updates: The Board of Control for Cricket in India prepares to unveil the squad for Team India, which is going to prepare for the tour by England to India by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the UAE.

The out-of-form veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will still continue to form the batting core of India's Dre discount from this weekend, three senior men's cricket players whose carrying future into the 50-over format could easily be debated when selectors meet this weekend to pick the squad for the Champions Trophy.

All the matches for this Champions Trophy will have India playing in Dubai, starting with the match against Bangladesh, on February 20. This came after the team refused to travel to the original hosts Pakistan because of security reasons.

All teams participating in the tournament are required to submit their preliminary squads by 12 January, according to the apex board of the ICC.

With draws from Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia not going well, Team India has an eye on future white-ball tournaments including that against England touring India followed by ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The announcement for the squad for Men in Blue is expected from BCCI a day in advance of the final deadline.

Will Jasprit Bumrah make his way back to the India squad for the Champions Trophy? This is after reports suggested that the Indian pacer had consulted a New Zealand surgeon under whom he had undergone surgery for his 2023 back injury.

Mohammed Shami picked up three wickets as Bengal took on Haryana in the Vijay Hazare Trophy preliminary quarterfinal to stake his claim in the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy.

As far as pace is concerned, there is another option for the Indian team in Mukesh Kumar, an emerging talent from Bengal. This right-arm seamer is in fiery form with the ball in the current Vijay Hazare Trophy, topping the tournament stats with 13 wickets from 6 matches.

Future in the white ball format remained also suspicious after one report of HT said that the all-rounder is not in the scheme of things for India.

Rohit Sharma may be under intense scrutiny because of the pathetic run in the BGT; however, the Indian nonetheless stands to be retained as captain for the Champions Trophy. In three matches that Rohit played in Australia, the Indian captain managed only to score a meager 31 runs in five innings.

But before the champions Trophy squad announcement, India will announce the squads of the T20s as well as ODIs against England. Most likely, the same squad is going to get retained for the Champions Trophy.

As per an HT article, Jasprit Bumrah visited the same New Zealander doctor, under whom the Indian pacer had undergone surgery in 2023. His participation in the Champions Trophy will thus depend on his fitness. The only way he would be played is if he feels entirely well after the pain is perceived in the squad, despite being included in the provisional squad.
