Central government approves promotion of 5 new judges in Supreme Court, long tussle over appointment process
Among the 5 new judges approved by the Central Government for the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Pankaj Mithal, Chief Justice of Patna High Court Sanjay Karol, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court PV Sanjay Kumar, Justice of Patna High Court Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Manoj Mishra of the Allahabad High Court.

The Central Government on Saturday approved the promotion of five new judges in the Supreme Court. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju gave this information. "The Center has approved the promotion of five new judges in the Supreme Court," he said. The collegium had recommended the names of three chief justices and two judges of high courts for elevation to the Supreme Court in December last year.
Among the 5 new judges approved by the Central Government for the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Pankaj Mithal, Chief Justice of Patna High Court Sanjay Karol, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court PV Sanjay Kumar, Justice of Patna High Court Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Manoj Mishra of the Allahabad High Court.
After taking oath of these five judges in the Supreme Court, the working strength of the court will be 32. At present the sanctioned strength of the Supreme Court is 27 including CJI DY Chandrachud while its capacity is 34.
