So far, three cases of Omicron subvariant BF.7 of Corona, which is spreading rapidly worldwide, have been reported in India. Two cases have been reported from Gujarat, while one case has been reported from Odisha. BF.7 is a sub-variant of Omicron's variant BA.5 and is highly infectious. Its 'incubation' period is short. It has a high potential to re-infect or even infect people who have been vaccinated (Covid-19). Officials said the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center detected the first case of BF.7 in India in October.
In a Covid review meeting chaired by Health Minister Mandaviya on Wednesday, experts said that though the number of Covid cases have not increased in the country so far, there is a need for continuous surveillance to track existing and emerging variants. The minister asked people to follow the behavior related to prevention of spread of infection including wearing masks in crowded places and get vaccinated.
