Ceiling Slab Collapses at Kannauj Railway Station, Several Feared Trapped
A ceiling slab of an under construction building collapsed in Kannauj railway station on Saturday, January 11, in Uttar Pradesh leaving nearly 10 people trapped. Rescue operations have begun and six people have been removed from the debris so far.

Police and rescue personnel, including a team from the State Disaster Response Force, are present at the spot and operations are on to rescue the trapped workers. Those rescued have been rushed to the hospital for treatment. The station was being renovated under the Amrit Bharat scheme, and a two-storey building was being constructed. "According to preliminary information, the incident occurred when the under-construction shuttering of the roof collapsed," District Magistrate (DM) Shubhrant Kumar Shukl said, who rushed to the spot along with other senior officials to oversee the rescue operation. After the incident, panic ensued, and locals rushed to the site, but were unable to help due to the heavy debris. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took note of the accident and directed officials to immediately reach the site and expedite relief efforts. He also directed the officials to ensure proper treatment for the persons injured in the incident.
Railway Station Deteriorating Under Amrit Bharat Yojana
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, the building of the city's railway station has started falling apart. The foundation of the railway station of Perfume City was laid on 15 December 1980, about a century and a half ago. This station was started during the British rule. There are two platforms at this railway station. More than a dozen express trains pass through Kannauj railway station.
