The first patient of Omicron found in Andhra Pradesh is a 34-year-old foreign traveler. According to the statement issued by the government, the person reached Mumbai airport from Ireland, where his Covid test came negative. After this he came to Visakhapatnam on 27 November, where his Covid test came positive. After this the sample was sent for genome sequencing, where the person was found to be Omicron positive.
Andhra Pradesh government said that this is the first case of Omicron variant in the state. So far, the Covid test of 15 foreign travelers has come positive and all have been sent for genome sequencing.
The first case of Omicron variant has also come to light in Chandigarh. News agency ANI quoted the Chandigarh Health Department as saying that a 20-year-old man who arrived in India from Italy on November 22 is the first Omicron patient in this union territory. On December 1, the person's Covid test came positive, after which he was found positive for Omicron.
